Regional Flows for 1/1/2026!

by Rock Snot

Here are extremely late flows for 1/1/2025! Flows have dropped a bit but the reported flow for the Racecourse and OV is still over 550 cfs. Rio Chama is still now, and gauges in New Mexico and Colorado are reporting more interference from ice. In Colorado some of the gauges are also lower. The Wellsville gauge for Royal Gorge of the Arkansas River is reporting 322 cfs. The gauge for the Barrel Springs and Shoshone sections of the Colorado River in Colorado is reporting 611 cfs. And out west in Utah in Cataract Canyon of the Colorado River, the gauge at Gypsum Canyon near Hite is reporting 4,310 cfs.

WARNING: when weather is cold enough to allow ice to form in rivers, these rivers can develop ice "bridges" or places where a layer of ice (sometimes thick) is formed across the river. Just because there is a flow doesn't mean there aren't significant (and dangerous) ice obstructions in the river.

NOTE: gauge readings can be distorted when ice is forming in rivers.
