AWC Intermediate Hard Shell River Kayaking

Saturday, June 1 2024 9:00am (3-4 hrs)

This intermediate clinic will cover moving water skills in Class III whitewater and how to become more comfortable paddling harder stretches of river. We will cover more advanced water reading skills such as identifying friendly and unfriendly holes and rocks, on-the-water safety, some basic boat-to-boat rescue techniques, when and how to scout a rapid, how to make your paddle strokes more efficient, and the basics of surfing and side surfing small waves and holes. We will review bracing, edge control and carving, ferrying, peel outs, and eddy turns and practice these skills in faster water than the beginner course. If there is enough interest and time, we will also cover backwards ferrying, peel outs, and eddy turns, which come in handy when you least expect it!
