Introduction to Hard shell River Kayaking

Saturday, June 6, 2026 9:00am (4 hrs), 20 students max.

Introduction to Hard Shell River Kayaking will provide the first steps in using basic paddle strokes to enter River Kayaking.  The course will cover basic equipment, safety, reading the river, and techniques for running and playing on class II rivers.  Participants will gain experience with maneuvering their boats in current, practice whitewater techniques on easy water, and gain an understanding of assessing skills, river, and environmental conditions that go towards a fun and successful day on the water.

Adobe Whitewater Club Membership:

  • You must be a member of the Adobe Whitewater Club to participate in the clinic. It’s only $15! Join here.

Event Insurance & Signed Waiver are MANDATORY

  • If you are a member of the American Canoe Association, event insurance is included in your membership. You will need to provide your membership number and expiration date when registering.

  • If you are NOT a member of the American Canoe Association, event insurance is $10/person and can be purchased here or when you check out.

All participants will be required to sign a waiver. A parent or guardian must sign for participants under 18 years old.

Equipment needed: Kayak, paddle, spray skirt, type III PFD, whitewater helmet (bicycle helmets not allowed), whistle, footwear that will protect your feet (no flip-flops), appropriate clothing for cold water and changing conditions, lunch/snacks, water, sun protection, a change of clothes.
