Introduction to PAck Rafts

Saturday, June 6, 2026 9:00am (4 hrs), 5 students max.

During this introductory Pack Raft clinic, we will paddle from TJB to Lone Juniper. Skills covered include:

  • Necessary equipment and attire

  • Choosing and maintaining pack rafts, kinds, care

  • Rigging for optimal performance

  • Loading for longer trips, tips and tricks

  • River safety in general, and flipping and recovering an inflatable

  • Basic strokes: paddle grip, sweep, backstroke, forward stroke, low-brace (if desired, more sophisticated strokes: draws, sculls, “Duffek”, surfing)

  • Applicability of strokes to flow in the river: eddy turns and ferrying

  • River reading and running

Adobe Whitewater Club Membership:

  • You must be a member of the Adobe Whitewater Club to participate in the clinic. It’s only $15! Join here.

Event Insurance & Signed Waiver are MANDATORY

  • If you are a member of the American Canoe Association, event insurance is included in your membership. You will need to provide your membership number and expiration date when registering.

  • If you are NOT a member of the American Canoe Association, event insurance is $10/person and can be purchased here or when you check out.

All participants will be required to sign a waiver. A parent or guardian must sign for participants under 18 years old.

Equipment needed: Pack Raft, paddle, type III PFD, whitewater helmet (bicycle helmets not allowed), whistle, footwear that will protect your feet (no flip-flops), appropriate clothing for cold water and changing conditions, lunch/snacks, water, sun protection, a change of clothes.
