Introduction to PAck Rafts
Saturday, June 6, 2026 9:00am (4 hrs), 5 students max.
During this introductory Pack Raft clinic, we will paddle from TJB to Lone Juniper. Skills covered include:
Necessary equipment and attire
Choosing and maintaining pack rafts, kinds, care
Rigging for optimal performance
Loading for longer trips, tips and tricks
River safety in general, and flipping and recovering an inflatable
Basic strokes: paddle grip, sweep, backstroke, forward stroke, low-brace (if desired, more sophisticated strokes: draws, sculls, “Duffek”, surfing)
Applicability of strokes to flow in the river: eddy turns and ferrying
River reading and running
Lead Instructor: Paul Barrett

You must be a member of the Adobe Whitewater Club to participate in the clinic. It’s only $15! Join here.
Event Insurance & Signed Waiver are MANDATORY
If you are a member of the American Canoe Association, event insurance is included in your membership. You will need to provide your membership number and expiration date when registering.
If you are NOT a member of the American Canoe Association, event insurance is $10/person and can be purchased here or when you check out.
All participants will be required to sign a waiver. A parent or guardian must sign for participants under 18 years old.
Equipment needed: Pack Raft, paddle, type III PFD, whitewater helmet (bicycle helmets not allowed), whistle, footwear that will protect your feet (no flip-flops), appropriate clothing for cold water and changing conditions, lunch/snacks, water, sun protection, a change of clothes.
