Introduction to Inflatable Kayaking
Saturday, June 6, 2026 9:00am (4 hrs), 10 students max.
This river inflatable kayaking clinic will focus on the following:
necessary equipment and attire, choosing and maintaining
inflatable kayaks, kinds, care, rigging for optimal performance
loading for longer trips, tips and tricks
river safety in general, flipping and recovering an inflatable
basic strokes: paddle grip, sweep, backstroke, forward stroke, low brace
if desired, more sophisticated strokes: draws, sculls, “Duffek”, surfing
applicability of strokes to flow in the river: eddy turns and ferrying
river reading and running

Event Insurance & Signed Waiver are MANDATORY
If you are a member of the American Canoe Association, event insurance is included in your membership. You will need to provide your membership number and expiration date when registering.
If you are NOT a member of the American Canoe Association, event insurance is $10/person and can be purchased here or when you check out.
All participants will be required to sign a waiver. A parent or guardian must sign for participants under 18 years old.
Equipment needed: Inflatable kayak, paddle, type III PFD, whitewater helmet (bicycle helmets not allowed), whistle, footwear that will protect your feet (no flip-flops), appropriate clothing for cold water and changing conditions, lunch/snacks, water, sun protection, a change of clothes.
